DFW Scanner Donates is a 501(c)(3) organization committed to supporting first responders in North Texas. Established in 2019 with the initial goal of providing hydration to frontline responders, the organization has since broadened its mission to include mental health support and financial assistance.
65%
of fire departments in the United States are volunteer.
Smaller departments barely have enough funds to be operational, and many have no bottled water supply. We are working to change that.
2020
changed things.
When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, we realized a new need for first responders serving on the frontlines: sanitization and PPE equipment. We immediately began making connections with companies across North Texas who printed 3-D Face Shields and manufactured sanitizer. They were able to secure dozens of pallets worth of PPE equipment and hand sanitizer, and distributed it to departments all over North Texas.
676
first responder suicides in 2023.
As needs for the first responder community evolve, we evolve as well. There is a significant demand for mental health counseling for first responders. We have worked with a team of therapists to help create the DFW First Responder Support Network, an initiative that aims to provide first responders and their families with mental health services. Part of the initiative will involve one-on-one counseling sessions, which we hope to be able to sponsor when additional funds are received.
